The Last of Summer
As summer ends, the townspeople continue to cope with their grief over Colin Hart's death last spring, and Dr. Brown and his family are unfairly marked as social outcasts because he was unable to save Colin during brain surgery. Ephram tries to comfort Amy by relating his experiences with his mother's death. Meanwhile, with almost no clients, Dr. Brown retreats to his office and recalls the choice he faced while operating on Colin. Ephram and Edna individually plead with Dr. Brown to stop acting as if he were guilty, and Nina persuades him to go to a new restaurant with her. But their meal is marred when Amy berates Dr. Brown publicly. At the memorial service, Amy delivers a heartfelt remembrance, and the audience is shocked when Dr. Brown arrives and makes a moving speech about Colin.
Extra Ordinary
Dr. Brown is concerned that Ephram needs more extracurricular activities in order to be accepted at a top college, but Ephram is only focused on his Juilliard music school audition--which has surprising results. Amy's lack of interest in college preparation alarms her mother, Rose, more than her father, Dr. Abbott. And Bright's poor grades result in him being ejected from the football team, possibly jeopardizing the scholarship his father believes may be Bright's only chance to get into a decent school. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown tries to help a cheerleader, Stacey Wilson, who has ruptured breast implants but cares more about looking good than being healthy.
My Brother's Keeper
The entire Abbott family is agitated by the return of Dr. Linda Abbott, Dr. Abbott's sister, who has been practicing Eastern-based medicine in exotic locations around the world. Edna is so proud of her daughter's accomplishments that she doesn't notice how lonely Linda is, and Edna needs to be reminded what a wonderful life she's built with Irv, even without travel and excitement. Linda encounters major resistance from Dr. Abbott when she announces her decision to join his practice. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown learns that some local adolescents may be practicing unsafe sex, and he is shocked at their parents' reaction to the situation. Also, Bright asks Ephram to watch over Amy, whose odd behavior has everyone worried.
East Meets West
Dr. Brown's well-intentioned plan to give Ephram more free time by hiring college student Madison Kellner as a caretaker for Delia ends up making things worse. Madison treats Ephram like a child and embarrasses him in front of Amy. Meanwhile, Dr. Brown's concern for the deceased Colin's alcoholic father, James, distracts him from Nina's struggle with her divorce proceedings. Dr. Abbott continues to clash with his physician sister, Linda, when she tries to take over his office. The differences in their personalities and medical philosophies become alarmingly clear.
Daddy's Little Girl
When Dr. Brown invites Linda to dinner at the Brown house to discuss a patient, Delia lashes out, using foul language. With some insight from Delia's caretaker, Madison Kellner, Ephram figures out the reason for his sister's bad behavior. Meanwhile, Amy's depression deepens, but when her therapist recommends medication, Dr. Abbott refuses to write a prescription to help his daughter cope with Colin's death.
Blind Faith
Much to his chagrin, Dr. Abbott suspects that Linda and Dr. Brown are far too attracted to each other, so he decides to select more appropriate suitors for his sister. Meanwhile, Ephram finally has the courage to tell Amy how he really feels about their relationship, but he is confused by his interest in Madison, who comes to his aid when Ephram needs help passing his driving test. Dr. Brown tries to help the soon-to-be-remarried Reverend Keyes cope with his impending blindness, but the minister would rather leave his fate to God than attempt a new treatment that might save his sight.
Three Miners from Everwood
When a coal mine collapses, Dr. Brown rushes to the scene, along with Edna, Linda and Dr. Abbott. One of the miners, Will Cleveland, is a jazz pianist who has recently become Ephram's mentor. Another, Daniel Sullivan, lives next door to Dr. Abbott, who has attempted to thwart Sullivan's outrageous building plans. And the third victim is Ellie Beels, who has been trying to conceive a baby. Dr. Brown, Dr. Abbott and Linda utilize their special skills under terrible conditions, but it is Dr. Brown who must confront his biggest fears in order to save lives.
Burden of Truth
When Phil, a mechanic, correctly "diagnoses" Dr. Brown's young patient with meningitis rather than with the flu, the townspeople believe Phil is a seer. Ephram confronts Madison about his feelings for her. Amy agrees to seek professional help from Linda. But out of desperation, Amy steals Linda's medical notepad to forge a prescription for antidepressants. Meanwhile, Edna learns the disturbing truth about why Linda does not want to pursue a relationship with Dr. Brown.
Just Like in the Movies
Dr. Brown courts Linda, despite Edna and Dr. Abbott's insistence that he's wasting his time. But Dr. Brown persists, forcing Linda to inform him that she is HIV positive. Meanwhile, Bright tells Ephram to ignore Madison in order to win her affections, but that becomes difficult when she breaks up with her boyfriend and comes to Ephram for friendly comfort. And Amy meets the flirtatious and attractive town "bad boy," Tommy Callahan, who has compassion for her problems and awakens emotions that she hasn't felt since Colin's death.
Unhappy Holidays
Outraged to discover that Ephram and Madison have gotten romantically involved, Dr. Brown almost terminates her job. However, Madison quits anyway, leaving the Browns with a very unhappy holiday. The situation worsens when Delia discovers another troubling relationship--the one between her father and Linda. Stressed by having to spend Thanksgiving with his cantankerous mother-in-law, Carol Roberts, Dr. Abbott reacts badly when Amy brings town "bad boy" Tommy Callahan to dinner. Amy finally becomes so exasperated that she runs away from home.
Family Dynamics
Within an hour of the discovery that Amy has run away from home, the authorities are at the Abbott house to scour for clues and interview her devastated parents and brother. However, Edna arrives and explains that Amy spent the night at Edna's house. This sets off a series of harsh family crises. Amy opts to remain at her grandparents' house, but she soon discovers that she cannot evade adult responsibility. Controlling Interest
Dr. Brown tries to intervene when a bulimic high school champion wrestler, Gavin Curtis, puts his life in jeopardy while preparing for an important tournament. Bright is suspended from school after he fights with Amy's boyfriend, Tommy Callahan. Meanwhile, Linda suspects that Dr. Brown is reluctant to become more intimate with her because of her HIV status. And Ephram is convinced that college student Madison is embarrassed to be seen with him.
Forget Me Not
Distracted by her first fight with Tommy, Amy forgets to prepare her father's birthday dinner, making a reconciliation with him more difficult. Madison lies to Ephram about liking a love song he wrote, leading to an argument when she refuses to show the song to her band. And Nina finally confronts Dr. Brown about his neglecting their friendship in favor of Linda.
No Sure Thing
Ephram gets the wrong idea when Madison tells him her roommate is going to be out of town--but the misunderstanding leads to intimacy for the couple. Meanwhile, Amy decides she's ready to have sex with Tommy, mustering the courage to ask Dr. Brown to write her a prescription for birth control pills. And Dr. Brown makes the important decision to talk to Ephram and Delia about Linda spending the night at their house.

Also, Amy breaks up with Tommy after realizing she might not be able to trust him.
Unspoken Truths
Bright helps Ephram get a fake identification card so he can get into a bar to see Madison perform with her band. Meanwhile, Nina relies on Dr. Brown for emotional support after she is served with divorce papers--and the genuine affection between the two worries Linda. Also, Dr. Abbott waits to rent his former office space until he meets what he feels is the best tenant, California transplant Jake Hartman. It's not until after the paperwork has all been signed that Dr. Abbott finds out what business Jake is in.
