An HBO Asia presentation, Folklore is a six-episode horror series that takes place across six Asian countries - Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand - with each hourlong episode based on a modern adaptation of a different country's deeply-rooted myths and folklore, featuring supernatural beings and occult beliefs. Helmed by directors from these six countries, each episode is in the local language of the nation in which its nightmarish tale is based, and features dynamic local actors. Seeking to modernize Asian horror and showcase the brand of horror that is characteristic of these varied cultures, Folklore explores specific societal dysfunctions, while also highlighting themes that resonate around the globe.
