Who can I share my HBO Max account with?

Your HBO Max subscription can be shared with the people who live with you (the people in your household). If you would like to permit access to your HBO Max subscription to a friend or family member who lives outside of your household, you can add an Extra Member to your account.

What’s included with an Extra Member account?

  • Separate account and password: Extra Members have their own account and password.
  • One profile, one device, all theirs: Extra Members can stream from one profile on one device at a time, which doesn’t count toward your own subscription limits.
  • Shared benefits from your plan: Extra Members can enjoy all other benefits included with your HBO Max subscription’s base plan.
  • All their favorites move with them: Extra Members can easily transfer existing adult profiles to their new account, keeping their watch history and recommendations.

How much does an Extra Member account cost?

An Extra Member account is just $7.99 USD/month and is added to your base HBO Max subscription.

How can I purchase an Extra Member account?

If you live in the US and subscribed directly on hbomax.com, it’s easy! To purchase an Extra Member, sign in on hbomax.com and go to Subscription. From there, choose Get Add-On and you will be taken through your Extra Member purchase step-by-step. You'll then be prompted to invite your friend or family member to activate their Extra Member account.

At this time, each account may only purchase one Extra Member. If you purchased HBO Max through a connected TV, mobile phone, another provider, or as part of a bundle, you won't be able to add an Extra Member at this time. Instead, you will need your friend or family member to sign up and pay for their own subscription.

I was notified that I'm sharing my HBO Max account with people outside of my household. What should I do?

If you live in the US and subscribed directly on hbomax.com, you can now add an Extra Member to your account for an additional $7.99 USD/month. With an Extra Member account, your friend or family member can:

  • Sign in with their own account and password
  • Stream on one profile from one device at a time
  • Enjoy all the other benefits included with your HBO Max subscription
  • Transfer an existing adult profile to their new account, keeping their watch history and recommendations

If you think there might be people using your HBO Max account who shouldn’t have access:

  • Check your account to see what devices are using your HBO Max account. You can sign out of some or all devices. To find out how, go to Manage your HBO Max devices.
  • Reset your password by signing in to your account on hbomax.com and navigating to your account page. From there, you can edit your password.
